Dear Families,
My name is Sarah
Gleason and I am so happy to be your child’s teacher! This is my 12th
year teaching 1st grade here at NVA and I know we are going to have
a fun and exciting year full of new learning experiences. I am looking forward
to meeting you and your child. Please come by our classroom to visit or lend a
hand at any time.
Each day we will
begin class promptly at 8:00am. Please make sure you child is on time so they
do not miss our morning routine and can start the day off right!
We will be having
lunch at ___________ o’clock.
I will have
parking lot or playground duty on _____________.
We will not have
snack as a class this year but if you feel your child may be hungry in the
afternoon, please pack them a healthy snack they can take out to recess with
them.
I want your child
to have a wonderful experience in first grade. If you ever have any questions
or concerns please contact me as soon as possible!
I am looking
forward to a wonderful year with you and your child
Sincerely,

Next Thursday the 10th we have the opportunity to watch a "Virtual Field Trip" to an Egg Farm. It is at 1:00pm Eastern so that will be 11:00am our time. That is also our lunch time, but we will eat in the classroom. If your child typically eats school lunch we will go pick up our lunch and we will bring it back to the classroom.
So we have been trying to schedule our field trip to Dion's and we finally have it, but instead of the 3 first grade classes going in the same week its ALL SPREAD OUT! Apparently Dion's has traveling tour guides and they are rarely at one site for more than a day. SO here is the break down...
Morett's class will go April 28th.
Atencio's class will go May 7th
Gleason's class will go May 12.
We will be sending out permission slips some time soon....

This is our last full week before Winter Break!
This week we will be taking our Discovery Education Assessments. We will be doing the Reading/Language Arts assessments here in the classroom on our 4 computers in rotations. We will be doing the Math Assessments tomorrow in the Computer Lab.
This week we are working on the long "u" sound. We are still working on the bossy "e" at the end of words that make the other vowel say its name.
I will be out Wed, Thurs and Friday. Mrs. McConnell-Hand will be the sub and I am leaving some fun stuff for her to do with the kids. YAY!

Only 2 whole weeks before Winter Break!
This week we are still working on the long vowel sounds, and using that "e" at the end of the word to make that other vowel say its name.
We are also doing a bunch of snow men stuff this week. .
Ask your child about what independent workers do!
1. They raise their hands if they have a question.
2. They stay in their seats.
3. They work alone.
